Abstract :
Managing and understanding the risks associated with safety critical systems is an activity that is well supported with process guidance and known tools and techniques, but remains a complex task generally requiring expert support. In this paper an approach to understanding this risk is discussed based on an analysis of a set of emergent properties identified collectively within Arthur D. Little as the /Six Cs The paper considers how such properties may be measured, what specific combinations of property values may mean and how this approach can complement existing project risk assessment approaches.
