Abstract :
LambdaGrids facilitate data-intensive distributed computing with high and sustainable bandwidth, which is provided by costly lightpaths. As a result of these expensive lightpaths, it is imperative that overprovisioning be avoided, but not at the expense of performance, as LambdaGrid users are entitled to consistent access. In this paper, we propose CapPlan (capacity planner), a network capacity calculator, which can plan a LambdaGrid configuration in order to quickly achieve a good balance between performance expectations and network-resource costs. The scalability of CapPlan combined with its low overhead will prove to be a significant asset for grid developers and architects
