Abstract
Branch modeling is one of the most important aspects in plant modeling, as branches build the structure of a plant. In this paper, we present a new method for branch modeling from two or four registered images using particle flows. Several strokes are drawn to represent branches on each image and the system produces a 3D branch model automatically. A trace analysis approach is proposed to establish a group of particles´ initial positions. In perspective projection condition, 2D skeletons with calibration information are used to compute a 3D direction field, in which particles move downwards from tips to base point and form a 3D plant skeleton. The experiments on bonsai plants show that the branch model constructed by our method can reflect the actual shape and parameters of a real plant.
