Abstract
The paper develops an analytical technique for the design and dynamic performance prediction of the special drive system consisting of a slotless-type electronically commutated permanent-magnet (ECPM) servomotor and its square-wave voltage controlled inverter. This technique is used, at first, to obtain a closed-form solution for the air gap flux distribution in the slotless ECPM servomotor, which is compared with corresponding finite-element field calculations. Then, the technique is extended to the performance analysis of the drive system, which is modelled using space-phasors for a given inverter switching pattern. The predictions from this analysis are validated against measurements
