Abstract
The principle of operation of three phase synchronous motors connected to a single phase supply using a single capacitor phase balancer, is presented. The transient behaviour of these motors under this mode of operation is investigated. For this purpose a rigorous state space current model is developed and simulated. The effect of the phase balancer capacitance on the transient process is explored
