Abstract :
This paper presents research work carried out on the pico hydro generation to utilize the potential of small water flows or low head waterfalls available almost throughout the year in India, for generation of electrical power. This research can help in reducing the present stress on the electrical power system and help in reducing the contamination of atmosphere due to burning of fuels. Presently Carbon emission has become a threat to the environment and the changes in seasons associated with global warming is posing danger to the life as well as plants. In the prototype, self excited induction generator (SEIG) is used instead of a conventional alternator. It is economical and affordable by individuals. Use of such small generating units can reduce consumption of diesel, petrol or coal and help in reducing carbon emission. It will help in reducing global warming to some extent and advance a step towards green energy revolution. Installation of small units will require less time, less civil and mechanical work.
