Abstract
This work contains a novel application of the consecutive mean excision (CME) algorithms. The CME algorithm has previously been studied as a narrowband interference excision method and its effect on mainly bit error rate (BER) performance has been studied. The CME algorithm uses all the data on its initial phase. The forward CME (FCME) algorithm initiates itself using a small, clean data set. The CME algorithms are ´blind´ since they do not need to know the noise level. In this paper, the CME algorithms are used for unknown narrowband signal detection. The performance of the CME algorithms is simulated and compared. The simulation results indicate that the CME algorithms have good detection performance and that the FCME algorithm operates even when the signal bandwidth is relatively large, covering even 85% of the receiver bandwidth.
