Abstract
Today many different kind of surface modification techniques are applying on medical and dental implant surfaces to improve surface specifications and there are many different specific investigations for these techniques from various aspects. The degradation on the surface properties of the implant materials varies according to the type of implant, usage area and the movement of this area. Studies have been conducted for these implant materials to be more biocompatible with the biological tissues as well as improving their surface properties. Improving the surface characteristics of the implant materials very important. In this work, changes in corrosion behaviour on grade 5-Ti6Al4V alloy and TiN-coated alloys by reactive magnetron sputtering were investigated in Ringer´s solution at 37C with use of Wenking M Lab100 test instrument. The electrochemical behavior of coated and uncoated Ti6Al4V alloys as a function of surface characteristics was determined after potentiodynamic polarization. The results demonstrated that TiN coated Ti6Al4V alloy was more corrosion resistant than uncoated Ti6Al4.
