Abstract
A sloping-baffle anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) with six compartments is applied to treat domestic wastewater. Sludge loss is effectively avoided. Domestic wastewater can be efficiently treated in the ABR, with less impact by the shock of COD fluctuation. The COD removal efficiency reaches about 70%. The content of VFA in ABR increases with the increase of the influent COD. The main component of VFA is acetic acid. The concentration of VFA decreases with the flow. The phenomena observed by microscopes and the increase of TSS in effluent indicate that anaerobic granular sludge may disaggregate under high sludge load rate. The research shows that ABR is an economical, stable and efficient technology for domestic wastewater treatment.
