Abstract
The performance of direct digital synthesizers (DDS) when employed to generate modulated signals is studied. From the different sources of distortion, the phase truncation process is analyzed as the main differences with the carrier DDS are expected in this process. The results show that in some cases an improvement in the spurious levels can be obtained, mainly due to the randomization of the truncation sequence. This could be the basis for methods for improve the performance of carrier DDS
