Abstract :
A lumped element electrical equivalent circuit model for traveling-wave semiconductor optical amplifier (TW-SOA) has been developed. The model is compatible with large signal analysis for both optical and current modulation. The novelty of this circuit model is the inclusion of wavelength dependency of gain of SOA over our earlier reported work. The paper describes dynamic response of SOA for both power and current modulation through analysis of our circuit. The model is validated by comparing simulated results with experimentally measured gain with respect to bias current, output power under steady-state and with respect to recovery time under dynamic condition of the SOA.
