Abstract :
Light interception is a key driver of crop production. Extinction of light depends on various factors such as row spacing, plant population density and solar angle. This preliminary study shows the effects of such factors on light extinction using a functional-structural modelling approach, focusing on spring wheat. In future studies these results will be implemented in a well-established crop growth model and used to assess the effects of variability in light extinction on crop growth.
