Abstract :
Summary form only given. Lightwave systems with optical amplifiers are vulnerable to performance degradation due to nonlinearity. In particular, the Kerr effect may lead to strong nonlinear interaction between the transmitted signal and the ASE noise that is generated by the EDFAs. The nonlinear interaction between the signal and the ASE noise was previously investigated by numerical simulations´. It was found that the nonlinear interaction is most efficient at the zero-dispersion wavelength, where it can lead to a significant degradation of the system performance. In this work, we analytically analyzed the nonlinear interaction between the signal and the ASE noise.
