Abstract :
The cowl was first applied to semi-aerobic landfill. The refuse which had been land-filled for one year was taken to the work. Contracting with two similar simulated semi-aerobic landfills during about 200 days, it was found that cowl was helpful to degrading and stabilizing for refuse, also enhance the ventilation of the system and reduce methane emission. BDM of the semi-aerobic landfill with cowl (the improved type) fell to 4.42 % from 15.27%, while the common type (without cowl) was 8.45%. And the methane concentration of the improved type at the vent of the windpipe reduced to 4% at last, while the common type was above 10%. Additionally, wind speed effects on methane and carbon dioxide concentration were investigated at 2 m/s, 3.5 m/s, 5 m/s, 6.5 m/s, 8 m/s.The wind speed increases made the concentration of methane reduced from the initial 15% down to below 5%.The principle and prospect of the cowl was analyzed in the end of the study.
