Abstract
A study has been made while analyzing an unusual problem in linear accelerator system, wherein, klystron has been used as high power microwave source. Klystron output started dropping unexpectedly for which, diagnosis was made. The root cause of the problem was found to be presence of corrosive sulfur in insulating oil used. Mineral oils are very commonly used as electrical insulation. This paper explains, the need for periodic testing of such oils, for presence of corrosive sulfur in them, especially where, electrical conductors and contacts are immerse in oil. Observations of the analysis will be useful or maintenance of similar systems.
