Abstract
This paper presents the results of an investigation conducted to evaluate alternative control schemes to maximize the disturbance rejection capability of a Smith-predictor based gauge feedback control system for a multistand aluminum rolling mill. The inherent transport-delay in the gauge controller makes it impossible to simultaneously improve low frequency disturbance rejection as well as reduce amplification of the disturbance
