Abstract :
In this paper, a novel distributed, energy-efficient WSNs protocol for maneuvering target tracking with special consideration of spatiotemporal constraints is proposed, which is referred to as ldquomaneuvering target tracking Mobicastrdquo (MTT-Mobicast). MTT-Mobicast protocol is a spatiotemporal multicast protocol that distributes messages to the sensor nodes located in special zones that evolve over time in a predictable manner. This protocol requires no prior information about the movement pattern of a target. One of the key components of the protocol is a fully distributed algorithm of zone formation, which is based on the most updated kinematics parameters supported by these collaborated sensors around the target. By using distributed particle filters, the kinematics parameters of the target are updated recursively and hence the function zones evolve over time. Based on the analysis and simulation results, it is shown that the MTT-Mobicast outperforms traditional spatiotemporal protocols in energy efficiency, prediction accuracy, and spatiotemporal guarantee.
