Abstract :
One of the main encoding techniques employed in robust header compression (ROHC) is the window-based least significant bits (W-LSB) encoding technique. In this paper, we use a combination of analytical, simulation, and numerical techniques to study the impact of different channel impairments and configurable parameters on the performance of W-LSB. Based on our investigation, we recommend suitable values for the configurable parameters to achieve enhanced performance. We show that for smaller packet loss rates, smaller window widths are optimal, and larger packet loss rates need a larger window width. In addition, we show that, for links that cause packet reordering, some changes in the default ROHC parameters can provide much better performance.
