Abstract
The adequacy assessment application considerations such as the contingency enumeration techniques, the network solution methods, and the remedial action approaches are the principal aspects in bulk power reliability assessment. In this paper, these fundamental issues are evaluated and compared. The comparison is made by conducting adequacy studies on a real power network of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and on the IEEE Reliability Test System (RTS). Two computer programs-COMREL and TRELSS-are used in these studies. Both programs use the state enumeration method, and the AC power flow solution is used for the evaluation
