Abstract
The task of automatic tuning PID controllers for applications in an industrial environment poses a constant challenge to control engineers. Although several methods have been proposed in the literature most of them has practical limitations. The paper presents a simulated and experimental study of procedures for automatic tuning of an industrial programmable controller applied to the control of a sour water stripping unit. Among the well known methods, four have been chosen for implementation. The automatic tuning algorithms are given step-by-step. Analysis of both simulated and experimental runs are presented
