Abstract :
The experience obtained during three years of operation of a PVRO desalination plant is presented. The treatment system was a reverse osmosis process using GKSS plate modules and was powered by a 24.5 kWp solar generator. The results of a computer-aided analysis of the system´s cost are also presented. The main PV generator consists of 1280 modules (PQ 10/20/0 AEG Telefunken). It is connected 32 in series and 40 in parallel. To prevent overloading of the battery, the PV generator can be switched off in six steps when a threshold is reached. This desalination plant is feasible from a technical standpoint, but is not yet fit for implementation in remote areas.
