Abstract
The design and development of an economical and simple measurement instrument, the atmospheric optical calibration system, is presented. Optical properties of interest are molecular and aerosol scattering, aerosol absorption, water vapor absorption, and the ratio of diffuse to global horizontal photon flux densities for the 0.40-0.70 mu m region. The measurements are used as input to a model for estimating the spectral solar irradiance (0.3-4.0 mu m) incident on the device (solar cell).
