  • Abstract
    This paper describes the approach that led to the adoption of the principles and best practices of Systems Engineering, aiming to create a simplified and optimised model for electronic product development, which is cost sensitive, quality focused and applicable also to other types of products under demanding market constraints. The model was developed based on the work conducted in order to create electronic product development capability at STV International Ltd., UK, aiming to achieve better control of product designs and intellectual property. The key advantage is the facilitation of a paradigm shift, from maximizing market opportunities based on available products from potential suppliers, towards specifying an innovative design that fits the market opportunity and acquire the suitable parts that make up products to fulfil such opportunity. The case study leading to the model development is succinctly presented, along with the general features of the model developed.
