Author_Institution :
British Telecom Res. Lab., Ipswich, UK
Abstract :
Project ADMIRAL was a collaborative project to investigate techniques for networking computer systems that may be distributed across a large organization. An extensive infrastructure was created and used to assemble a series of demonstrators. The author discusses one of the topics addressed by the project: the management of services on an internet that comprises a number of separate administrative domains. In addition to the direct results, ADMIRAL also initiated work in associated areas such as remote access to databases, interaction between entities, and the development of a wide range of tools for network and system management
