  • Abstract
The technology is available today to provide technical data in an economical paperless environment. The presentation of technical data must support having a system that is user-friendly, flexible, comprehensive, and quickly accessed. This automated system should also support the Congressional Continuous Acquisition and Life-cycle Support (CALS) mandate of establishing paperless environments. This paper deals specifically with placing the volumes of hardcopy technical data into digital format to support weapon system maintenance requirements. This paper addresses the benefits and liabilities of specific computer technology-related alternatives available for establishing a cost-effective paperless interactive technical data system. The software and hardware products identified in this paper are provided as examples and are not to be considered as actual product endorsements
