Abstract
Series compensation is widely used to increase stability in long-distance and heavily loaded transmission systems. With the use of power electronic devices, new possibilities came up to provide series capacitors with a higher degree of flexibility and availability. The benefits can be demonstrated with the TCSC- and TPSC-installations which have been in operation for several years.
