Abstract :
We propose a simple way to construct metamaterials with negative refractive index in the terahertz region. The metamaterials composed of dielectric spheres are periodically arranged on a metal-mesh. The transmission spectra show characteristic dispersions peaked at the frequency of the Mie resonance. The combination of the negative permeability of the Mie resonance and the negative permittivity of the metal-mesh is considered to bring about this peak.
