Abstract :
Recently, the fast out-transmission of the industries in Taiwan, accompanied by organization downsizing and outplacement, has caused great pressure on employees of the manufacturing industries in Taiwan. We investigated the source of the stress (macro-environment and organization stressors), the severity of the stress outcomes, and explored plausible intervention variables for organizations to reduce employee distress. Sample consisted of 313 respondents from manufacturing enterprises following a systematic sampling design. Results showed that the major stressors were living/societal, economical, and decision-making risk factors. About 51.20% of the employees had high stress perception. About 14.7% employees rated high on work stress consequences (depression), comparing to the 5.8% ~ 9.5% lifespan depression prevalence estimated by the WHO. Finally, an integrated theoretical stress intervention model was presented.
