  • Abstract
An L-typed insulating ladder is live-line maintenance tool, which enables the skilled worker to carry out the operation of detecting and displacing the faulty insulators in transmission line. For the worker´s safety, it is necessary to test the ladder´s properties before it is put into use. This paper presents the evaluation of electric fields and induced currents when the workers perform maintenance in a 330 kV power system by using a model of man and with a full sized 1:1 power tower. The electric field computation is performed by charge simulation method and it is checked by experiment. It is proved that the maximum errors of numerical and experimental results can be in the range of ±10 %. The computational method can be used to evaluate the maximum electric gradient along the ladder and induced currents in human body
