Abstract :
Defence communications organisations around the world are striving to narrow the gap between the warriors´ desk top and his real work environment. Collaborative developments with civil communications carriers offer the latest in commercially available technologies in formats which can survive in a wide range of military environments. This paper describes how the Australian Defence Organisation is deploying highly mobile digital communications as a result of two separate co-operative development projects, undertaken with Australia´s second carrier Optus Communications. The Australian warrior is enjoying the benefits of digital cellular mobile telephone technology and even more mobile satellite (L-band) communications through the sensible adaptation of commercial products and services
