Abstract
An overview is presented of the various processing steps currently employed in manufacturing large-area a-Si solar modules, pointing out areas of concern and fields for additional research and development. European manufacturing facilities and their respective product ranges, as well as research activities conducted at universities and research institutions, are described. Areas for improvement with respect to cost and long-term reliability, and potential markets are discussed
