Abstract :
In this paper, a simple Generalized Pulse Width Modulation) method is developed for the Vector Control based Voltage Source Inverter fed induction motor drives. This algorithm is applied for generation of Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation along with different Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation algorithms. In Generalized Pulse Width Modulation algorithm, the switching pulse pattern is generated using instantaneous phase voltages only. This makes this algorithm simple compared with conventional space vector based approach, which requires the calculation of sector & angle information. In this method, zero sequence voltage is calculated and added to reference phase voltages. Then, by varying a constant called as the zero time partition parameter (k0), different Discontinuous Pulse Width Modulation algorithms and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation algorithm can be generated. Moreover, this algorithm avoids the variable switching frequency operation and reduces the ripple content in current when compared to the classical vector control of induction motor. To evaluate the proposed Generalized Pulse Width Modulation algorithm, it is simulated for vector control based Voltage Source Inverter fed Induction Motor Drive and results are presented.
