Abstract :
Permanent magnet BLDC motor can be designed with different rotor configurations based on the arrangement of the permanent magnets. Rotor configurations strongly influence the performance of permanent magnet electrical machines. The aim of this paper is to compare and evaluate different rotor configurations for PMBLDC motor. Most of the applications prefer surface mounted permanent magnet design due to its ease of construction and maintenance. This paper compares radially magnetized and tangentially magnetized permanent magnet motors. The analysis and comparison of both the configurations are described using a three phase, 36 slot, 8 pole BLDC motor in COMSOL.
