Abstract :
The Lagrangian circulation in Changjiang Estuary, Hangzhou Bay and their adjacent sea area is simulated, with the riverine discharge, East China Sea Current, wind, the major tidal components, and the density gradient taken into account. The modeled outputs show that surface circulation pattern is similar to depth-averaged one both in summer and in winter. The Taiwan Warm Current is stronger due to the relatively large horizontal density gradient in summer. Dominated by tidal- induced current and wind-driven current, the pattern of circulation in Hangzhou Bay is against transporting material outward in winter, especially in the bay head, while it is in contrast in summer.
