Abstract
A series of electro-sorption equilibrium experiments have been performed to remove ions from aqueous solution, using two kinds of carbon aerogels as the electrodes. The experiment results showed that these two types of carbon aerogels with similar surface area but different pore size distribution performed differently. The combination of pore size distribution and electrolyte concentrations determines the overlapping of electrical double layers in pores, which may cause significant loss of electrical capacitance of carbon aerogel. By adjusting solution concentrations and tailoring pore size distribution of carbon aerogel, the optimized desalination effect could be achieved.
