Abstract :
With a lack of effective protection measures, ice accretion in various forms has been a serious threat to the safety operation of high voltage overhead transmission lines in China. In this paper, a new protecting method is described that a certain quantity of silicon rubber anti-icing skirts with certain diameters installed at different locations of insulator strings (21 pieces) on 330kV overhead transmission lines, It is adding silicon rubber anti-icing skirts with a diameter of 380mm on the 5th, 9th, 13rd and 17th insulator. An test based on 1:1 simulating insulator string was carried out in an artificial weathering chamber before and after prevention measures of icing flashover were utilized, and the voltage distribution of insulator strings was measured. Testing results proved that the flashover voltage under icing conditions can be increased by 12%.
