Abstract :
In mobile networks, the presence of a mobile terminal (MT) attached to networks can be detected by periodic location area update (PLAU) and normal location area update. In 3GPP TS23.012 and TS 24.008, PLAU period is the same for all MTs in a registration area. In dynamic PLAU scheme, the PLAU period is determined based on call and movement activities of MTs. However, both schemes do not consider the effects of detach interval on performance of PLAU. Therefore we develop an analytic model to investigate the effects of the detach interval on the performance of PLAU.
