Intelligent management of building-product database

This paper focuses on intelligent management and use of a multimedia building-product database through coupling knowledge-based system components with database development templates. We present a practical approach using construction building product information as an example to show how an industrial product database may be developed and managed by a knowledge-based system. Distinctions with conventional building product management and intelligent management are discussed. Significance of the impact of such an approach on the integrated design process is analysed in detail
