Abstract
The Daubechies 4 wavelet compresses and filters non-periodic signals and is used in our system for pre-processing data from 32 sensors, which is sent to a spiking neural network for chemical classification. The preprocessor features a Daubechies 4 wavelet processor and SPI bus, providing a standard interface for use with other components. This paper discusses the IC digital design, implementation, and evaluation of the D4 wavelet on 0.5μm CMOS chip. Design has been tested on a VHDL platform. Test and evaluation of the processed 1.62 mm2 D4 chip are presented. With VDD of 5V -to- 3.3V, clock frequency of 22MHz -to- 25 KHz, the chip dynamic power dissipation is estimated as 2.75μW down to 1.36nW.
