Abstract :
This paper discusses architectural aspects of personal communications services (PCS) for an early introduction of services in isolated areas. The advanced intelligent network (AIN) and front-end processing architecture are studied. However, PCS for small areas should provide not only connection oriented existing telephone services, but also transaction-type data services, multimedia services and advanced services (e.g., ones with a smart card) in order to be timely. Also, it should be compatible with the current intelligent network (IN) or AIN architecture for implementing universal personal telecommunication (UPT) numbers, or seamless services between local dedicated services and nationwide universal services. This paper describes how a better understanding of this new architecture will result in improved IN services that may be offered to local PCS users along with dedicated services
