Abstract
This paper presents some key concepts in the design and optimisation of solid core photonic crystal fibres (PCFs) based on hexagonal (triangular) lattice of low index circular inclusions, for broadband applications. The performance of PCFs with respect to key structural parameters such as pitch (Λ), number of air hole rings and air hole diameter (d) is investigated using full-vector finite-element method (FEM) with perfectly matched layers (PML).
