Abstract
Step-index polymer optical fibers are an interesting transmission medium that can be employed for aeromobile cabling. This paper shows 100 Mbit/s Ethernet transmission over long distances and transmission experiments of high speed data (1 Gbit/s and more) over intermediate distances (100+ m). Major research activities in terms of data transmission are related to home networking, but consistent part of the results achieved by these projects could be easily and efficiently extended to other promising sectors, such as industrial cabling, avionics, naval cabling, where performances and distances of interest are comparable with the previously mentioned ones.
