Abstract :
An improved fibre Lyot depolariser is proposed and demonstrated. The improvement results from adding a third section to the standard 2-section Lyot. Experimental work to compare the performance of a 2-section Lyot and a 3-section Lyot depolariser is also presented. Residual degree of polarisation is found to be as low as 0.09%(30.5dB).
