  • Abstract
    The complete traffic saturation of the terrestrial networks indicates that satellite communications can play major role in broadcasting multimedia services. Communication bottlenecks in terrestrial networks are making very difficult the deployment of bandwidth-hungry applications. A digital platform for providing multimedia services via satellite as well as data and digital TV is shown. This is the main contribution of the paper. This digital platform is based on ATM, SDH or on the same technology as used for digital television DVB (digital video broadcasting), and MPEG-2 technology. Data broadcasting, also known as data downloading, provides the possibility to transmit very large files in a very short time to a very large number of customers
