Abstract :
Currently, mostly chemical and mechanical way are used to remove oxide layers from metal layers. However, both retain environmental problems such as emission of secondary wastes. So, the treatment using low pressure arc is recommended to reduce the influence to the environment. However, the metal surface after treatment by low pressure arc tends to becomes rough. In this paper, the roughness of SUS430 surface depending on treatment time was discussed and also compared to roughness from blasting. SUS430 with oxide layer was used and been treated by low pressure arc. When the treatment time is short, the roughness was high because some of the oxide was left over. When the time passes, oxide layer was removed and the roughness became low. However, when it was treated too long, the roughness became higher because of fusion made by cathode spot. Therefore, the roughness by low pressure arc was lower than that by blasting
