Abstract :
The construction of a continuous-spaces SF6-gas-pressurized high-voltage cable system is reported. The conductor consists of bunched 1.27-cm-diameter aluminium redraw rods. Low-density, dry kraft paper impregnated with pressurized SF6 gas is used for insulation. The enclosure is a nonmetallic, flexible, gas-rated polyethylene conduit. The electrical properties of the insulation approach those of conventional SF6 gas spacer cables. The cost of the system is explored with respect to competing with conventional overhead transmission lines
