Abstract
This paper deals with the extension of the well known Obenaus model for flashover in outdoor insulators. It is assumed that contamination on insulator surfaces is not uniform and that the boundaries of the dry bands are not parallel. Taking into account the fact that the current starts to flow between points the distance of which is minimum, a more complete picture of the arc propagation emerges
