Abstract :
An analytical expression of the signal envelope under Rayleigh and lognormal distribution is derived, which coincides with the simulated data. The deviation which is widely used by a number of authors is also presented. It acts as an accurate foundation for further theoretical research. The statement that smart antenna can increase the capacity of cellular systems is verified by theory and simulation simultaneously. The conclusion shows that the enhancement ratio of the spectral efficiency is more than three, when a smart antenna is adopted with 50 degrees main beam and side lobe of -40 dBc
