Abstract
This paper presents an investigation of the challenges in efficient programming of a DS-CDMA descrambling and despreading application for the Cell Broadband Engine(CBE) architecture. A signal model of the DS-CDMA de-scrambling and despreading operations, exploitable by the CBE, is proposed. Based on the signal model partitioning and extraction of parallelism is conducted and implemented. The tests show that the initial implementation is able to demodulate a 10 ms communication burst in 84.2 ms with a utilization of 10.3% of the theoretical maximal 76.8 GFLOPS. We identify that the rather low utilization is due to the initial problem partitioning and propose a more efficient partitioning solution.
