Abstract
The authors report several typical frequency characteristics of vibrations of the metallic enclosure of a GIS (gas-insulated substation), especially the characteristics of vibration caused by free conducting particles and partial discharge under alternating voltage. An examination is made of contaminants under different SF6 gas pressures, the shapes of the electrodes, and their electrical strength. An inspection system which can predict internal latent faults of GIS from the vibration frequency spectrum is described
